When we feed our families we don’t think about optimizing meals for mental health. But good mental health depends on a well-nourished brain, advocates Dr. Drew Ramsey, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Columbia University and a leading proponent of nutritional brain health, an emerging mental health field. Through evidence-based studies, Dr. Ramsey identifies what nutrient-dense foods to eat for optimal mental health, and how diet impacts depression, anxiety and dementia. Dr. Ramsey, an engaging and animated speaker with a good sense of humor, will share with us the growing body of evidence about how shifting our diet can affect long-term brain health. Dr. Ramsey will be in conversation with Dr. Jeanne Rosner, physician, educator and founder of the SOUL Food Salon.

Jeanne Rosner, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist who practiced as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Stanford Medical Center for approximately 15 years. In 2011 she had an “aha” moment teaching nutrition classes in her son’s 5th grade science class and realized that learning and teaching about nutrition, health and wellness in her community was her destiny.

Since retiring from anesthesia, she has been a nutrition educator at local middle and high schools throughout the Bay area. She teaches these students the importance of eating food closest to its natural source, making good food choices and eating in a balanced and moderate way.

In addition, Dr. Rosner started a venture called SOUL (seasonal, organic, unprocessed, local) Food Salon in 2014. SOUL Food Salon’s mission is to educate and empower us all to be healthier by hosting salons/events and through its digital health and wellness newsletter, SOULFUL Insights.
